・Calm before the storm・
Do you ever feel a little guilty when you take time for yourself? I used to. It took me much practice and awareness not to feel guilty when I’m not doing something ‘useful’, and I still sometimes fall in the same trap of almost feeling ashamed for enjoying precious me time. So this morning I woke up feeling I’ve been chilling out enough (it hasn’t even been a week since a very intense ttc intensive) and I should do some work. I started with my schedule, and when I realized what lies ahead, I closed my computer, jumped into our jungle pool and decided to enjoy these last few days of calm before the storm guilt free.
•
I’m sorry if I haven’t been answering your emails and messages, but I really need this time to refill my batteries to the fullest. I will be back in ‘the office’ early next week. Have a wonderful weekend ahead. Love from paradise ❤️

Full supermoon 🌕 blessings to all! May you have the courage to let go of everything that’s holding you back and make space for whatever your heart dreams.
•
We’ve just arrived to Habarana sitting on a balcony of our room, listening to peacocks and watching this amazing supermoon rise over the jungle.
It’s good to be alive and witness this beauty.

As we were having lunch today in our favorite local beach restaurant, right where this photo was taken, a man who was in the ocean started shouting ‘help’! The place was full and it took a few shouts for people to take him seriously because he didn’t seem to be far from shore, but due to strong current and waves, the poor guy couldn’t come out. The first person who jumped to rescue was our Sanjin @sanjinkastelan even though he’s not comfortable with big waves and deep water. He saw another human being cry for help and conquered his fear in attempt to help. More people followed, locals threw in a buoy and everyone was fine. Needless to say, we were very proud of our Sanji. But, that’s not the moral of the story.
•
This spot is close to our TTC villa and I swam there many times, even on bigger wave days. I felt the current but thought it was ok, I think surfing made me believe I know what I’m doing. The truth is, I didn’t. The ocean at no surf and no swimming spots is so unpredictable and swimming there further than waist depth wasn’t the smartest thing. On the other hand, I was eyeing this swing on the photo for weeks, contemplating whether I should try it or not as I’m not comfortable with heights. The truth is, it’s not that high at all and it’s pretty safe so my fear was irrational. Some think about sharks in the ocean for example, but here is a (not so fun) fact - far more people here die from coconuts falling on their heads and nobody actually died of a shark attack. However most of us will have no problem swinging in a hammock tied to two palm trees full of ripe coconuts. It seems that, when it comes to fear, our minds are much more conditioned by inherited fears than rational thinking.
There are so many irrational fears we give so much energy and power to, and these fears block us in so many ways, cripple us, and stop us from living our life to the fullest. The only way to real freedom is libeating ourselves from fear. I know. Easier said than done;).

It’s our last day here on the south coast of Sri Lanka before we travel inland for a bit of exploration. Today I’m filled with gratitude for all the wonderful moments I shared with so many wonderful people, I’m grateful for the beauty and lushness of this island, and for mama Ocean being so close. Just staring at the waves feeds my soul. Leaving a place you love is always bittersweet, but knowing we will be back soon makes it less bitter and the prevailing feeling is - happiness.
•
Already can’t wait for December to be back here, I’m looking forward to our new TTC venue and our new, beautiful team house we found today. Last few days were about scouting new spots (food, beach, surf..) around our next venue and we’re happy with the gems we have found! More info on what’s happening from December 28th - January 25th 2021. soon!

After three weeks of teaching and holding space, full day of exams, diploma ceremony, dinner and drinks yesterday, this morning I woke up very tired and very grateful. It has been an intense but beautiful and inspiring three weeks. We have shared so many stories, laughs, sweat and tears it will take a while for all of it to settle and take shape.
•
Nothing much to say but thank you all for your openness, kindness and love. It was such a pleasure teaching you, learning from you and sharing moments with you. I love you ❤️ And a huge thank you my beautiful team Jasna @jasna_yoga_dance_travel , Sanjin @sanjinkastelan , Mare @marijamarija_b and beautiful Diwa @tulamala

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” ~ Rumi
•
I wrote about self-love the other day and I see it inspired and resonated with many. And as some celebrate love today, it’s good day to be reminded of the importance of self-love.
•
You cannot truly love, or know and embrace love of another until you discover the love for your self. In the wise words of Rumi, first step is finding the barriers we have built against it. We do this by acknowledging what led us to build walls, by acceptance and forgiveness and finally letting go of the pain, hurt and sorrow of the past which disrupted the flow of energy. You fo this and you become love. The search is over;).
•
Happy love day to all of you! ❤️

“Now, every time I witness a strong person, I want to know: What darkness did you conquer in your story? Mountains do not rise without earthquakes.” – Katherine MacKenett
•
This quote popped up today on IG or FB and really resonated with me so I’m sharing it with you, maybe it helps you see your self or someone in a different light.
Always remember that the obstacles you faced, the fears you conquered, pain you survived is not something to be ignored or forgotten, but acknowledged and forgived. Those moments had made you into who you are today. •

My friend sent me a short comic of an Awesome Opposum (check stories) who goes around telling everyone they are awesome, but when he looks in the mirror, he can’t see his own awesomeness. It made me sad and it made me think how quick we are to praise others and judge ourselves. But, without self-love, there’s no true love of others. Like with everything, we must start with ourselves and expand from there. If you struggle with looking at your self in the mirror and saying “you’re awesome, I love you”, know it’s a journey and every journey starts with first steps.
•
Surround your self with people who see your beauty and your light, and who accept your shadow without judgement.
•
Set healthy boundaries - learn how to say no to whatever doesn’t serve you or depletes your energy without the fear of being judged and disliked. Those who cross healthy boundaries might not like this and will either adapt or disappear from your life, hence help you with step one!
•
Self-care is an important step to self-love. Take care of yourself every day; body, mind and heart. Nourish your body with good, clean food, inspire your mind and heart with something daily (nature, good book, quality time with friends...)
•
Look at your self in the mirror and find something you like about your self physically as well as about your character and say it out loud.
•
Much love my awesome friends ❤️
•
Thank you @sanjinkastelan for this capture and for reminding me I’m awesome too!;) ❤️ Wearing @ripcurl_women

One of the branches of Yoga is Karma Yoga, the yoga of selfless action. Karma Yoga is about generosity and kindness, about lending a helping hand to those less fortunate, doing something for the greater good without expecting anything in return. Something this often selfish, ego driven world can use much more of and something I believe yoga communities could too, so this is something I like to inspire my students to think about and turn into practice once they become teachers.
•
Today our group here on our TTC intensive got together and did some Karma Yoga. Part of the group went to clean up the beach close to our villa and picked up a bunch of rubbish, while some of us went to Dog Care Clinic @dogcareclinicev , a place close to my heart. I had the opportunity to meet amazing people there last year, visit the clinic with yoga group and find out about the amazing work they do. I sponsored a dog and supported their work. Hope some of you will too. I’m sharing their website in the bio so please read their story and if you can, donate to this beautiful organization.
•
It was an emotional day for me, I almost took this three legged pup on the first photo home, and shed some tears for all of them but I’m also grateful places like this exist and thankful to my group for their willingness to help. I know each positive intention ripples far and wide.

“Love rests on two pillars: surrender and autonomy. Our need for togetherness exists alongside our need for separateness.” ~ Esther Perel
•
In our little bubble, our cute Sri Lankan jungle house, we spend a lot of time laughing, joking, and talking about life. Last night we discussed how relationships have become more complicated and how that genuine human connection is slowly losing itself in virtual reality of social networks, multiple possibilities and indecisiveness. The topic of love and relationships is one I discuss often with friends, as well as something I contemplate a lot lately myself and, even though our conversation took a humorous turn and we laughed a lot, I went to bed pondering.
•
It seems that more and more, our need to connect and surrender is being overpowered by our need to be free and independent, and the need to be free and independent is fuelled by the mirage of choices provided by virtual realities. In this pull of togetherness vs. separateness I feel that separateness is winning, but not because it’s our heart’s desire, as I am sure it longs for intimacy and connection, it because of different layers of fear fed by the illusion of choices. As we pull away from each other more and more, we grow more lonely and more used to our aloneness, masking it with the promise of freedom. But the truth is, freedom lies in connection and the fine balance of surrender and autonomy.

With subtle anatomy day before and Ayurveda lecture yesterday, we started diving deeper and into our Elemental Vinyasa methodology, learning about adopting the pace of nature and following its wisdom to find balance on and off the mat. Even though today was a heavy, low pressure day and it wasn’t easy for me to stay focused, it’s still one of my favorite lectures. It’s probably because it just makes so much sense and because of great feedback from the students.
•
Elemental Vinyasa is the main module of our 200-hour ttc, and in order to understand its complexity we had to build strong foundations learning alignment, anatomy and biomechanics, learning about Prana and the Subtle. Once that’s accomplished, everything falls into place.
•
Next 200-hour intensive @spanda.vinyasa starts this September in Portugal and January in 2020.

Nature always seeks balance. When the atmospheric water vapour becomes condensed and forms droplets heavy enough to be pulled by gravity, rain falls back on Earth. We can all feel this cycle; first comes the build-up of atmospheric tension, then comes the release (rain) followed by clarity (clear sky).
•
We are a part of everything and if we’re aware of this, we can notice these cycles within. Something touches us, tension builds up which is only an energy that needs to go somewhere, it needs to transform. But, we often don’t allow ourselves this release. Sky doesn’t hold back its tears and its storms and neither should we. Cry it out, shout it out, laugh it out, it’s only a build up of energy which needs to be transformed.
•
As we went deep into the teaching of the subtle anatomy yesterday, it moved all of us in one way or another. There were tears and AHA moments and I’m always happy and grateful to see that. Happy because I know how important it is to let it out, grateful because I know it takes trust and feeling of space being held for you to go into that place and allow the release to happen. Thank you all for trusting me. Love you. ❤️
And thank you @sanjinkastelan for this beautiful capture. You’re amazing.

New moon blessings! Take a moment of solitude and stillness, find an inspiring horizon, don’t close your eyes, but really see and connect. Dig into the depths of your heart and ask what it desires. Hear its wisper (or a roar). Ask the Universe to provide and your heart to show you the way, and watch the magic unfold. ✨

So proud of my teacher trainees here on our Sri Lanka intensive! We’re not even halfway through the training and they are already sequencing and teaching, plus I just finished grading their first part of written exam and everyone did really well! 👏
•
For years I only taught one year programmes and thought intensives are too short and too intense. But after I decided to try and created a programme I thought would work well (with pre-training prep and well balanced schedule), I now see that with dedication and effort, they can work beautifully. And dedication and effort is something this group definitely has. Proud of you all my lovelies ❤️
